The Resins Inc. Group

Resins Inc., a 100% Filipino holding company, is among the more diversified corporate groups in the Philippines today. Its principal subsidiaries are in the manufacture of synthetic resins and industrial chemicals for various industries.

As a manufacturing company, Resins Inc. began its commercial operations in 1958 with the production of adhesives for the plywood industry and alkyd resins for the paint and printing ink industries.  Soon after, the company progressively expanded to include the production of a wide range of synthetic resins, including unsaturated polyester resins, acrylic resins, and phenolic resins for foundry and other resins. The company was for many years a licensee of Reichold Chemicals Inc. of the USA, one of the world’s largest producers of synthetic resins.

As the company grew, it advanced to include the production of some of its own raw material requirements, operating a formaldehyde plant in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, geared primarily to supplying the adhesive requirements of the plywood industry in Mindanao, and also bulk storage depots for these adhesives.

On January 1, 1997, RI Chemical Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary, assumed all the manufacturing and marketing operations of Resins Inc. This subsidiary also serves as the exclusive agent in the Philippines of Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd. of Japan for the latter’s titanium dioxide pigments.

On August 21, 1998, Pacific Resins Inc. assumed the synthetic-resin manufacturing and trading businesses of Pacific Products Inc. The company maintains operations in Pasig City.

Another subsidiary, Pigmentex Inc., manufactures coating, adhesive and unsaturated polyester resins for Pacific Resins Inc. and RI Chemical Corporation in its plant located in Carmona, Cavite.

Philippine Iron Construction and Marine Works (PICMW) is engaged in overseas and domestic general construction, equipment fabrication, shipbuilding and repair. The company’s shipyard in Jasaan is equipped with a 1200-ton synchrolift.

Chem Insurance Brokers and Services Corporation was established in 1977 to handle the insurance requirements of the Resins Inc. Group of companies.

Apart from the above wholly owned subsidiaries, Resins Inc. has also diversified its interests through two joint ventures:

  • Integrated Microelectronics Inc. (IMI), now a leader in the Philippine electronics industry, is a joint venture with the Ayala Corporation, with Resins Inc. maintaining a minority interest.
  • AVC Chemical Corporation, a joint venture with Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, Ltd of Japan, distributes
agricultural pesticides manufactured by the latter. Resins Inc. maintains a controlling interest in the corporation.
